The right-back has previously worn 2, 6, 20 and 22 at Camp Nou

At the age of 38, Dani Alves has returned to FC Barcelona with the aim of helping the club through a difficult moment in their recent history.

Barça announced the signing of the Brazil international on Friday. In his first spell with the club, between 2008 and 2016, he wore four different shirt numbers: 2, 6, 20 and 22.

This time, he will have to choose another new number. Those four are all already occupied at Camp Nou by Sergiño Dest, Riqui Puig, Sergi Roberto and Oscar Mingueza respectively.

At the moment, Barça have No.8 free after the departure of Miralem Pjanic and the No.25, too. If no player leaves in January, Alves will have to choose one of them.

The undertain situation surrounding Sergio Aguero (No.19), whose heart condition could force him to retire per some reports, and the possibility of January sales could give Alves more options.

Alves will join in with training next week but will not be able to play until January, when the transfer window officially opens.
