Setien's first Barça meeting: no more January exits & a No.9 could come in

The new Barcelona coach is now making plans for the month

Quique Setien has just landed in Barcelona and is already looking ahead at what needs doing. Beyond the emotion of the first day, with training, signing his contract and meeting the press, he also had time for meetings to decide on a January strategy.

Setien, 61, spoke with sporting director Eric Abidal and his assistant Ramon Planes, as well as CEO Òscar Grau and, of course, the president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

At the end of the day they had reached two conclusions: there will be no more exits this month and the possibility of signing a striker to replace the injured Luis Suarez has not been ruled out.

Therefore, the first decision taken by Setien is that Arturo Vidal stays, despite the fact the midfielder has a big offer on the table from Inter Milan.

And the second is to see what striking options are available on the market, given that Suarez is sidelined for up to four months following knee surgery.

Barça won't rush, though, because they don't want another situation like last season when they signed Kevin Prince Boateng and it did not work out. If there's no worthwhile option, they will not sign.

The plan is to bet on youngsters like Ansu Fati and Carles Perez as much as possible, too.
