The Barça player could not train on Thursday after breaking LaLiga's rules

Barcelona coach says Nelson Semedo's protocol breach will not affect his team selection when his side return to La Liga action on Saturday after a three-month pause due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Semedo missed training on Thursday after attending a gathering of more than 20 people earlier this week, something which is prohibited not just under the league's regulations in these new times, but also currently in the region of Catalonia, which is in Phase 2 of Spain's de-escalation plan.

The Barça right-back tested negative for coronavirus, though, and returned to training on Friday. Setien says he has said sorry and could start in the game at Mallorca this weekend.

"I have not decided if will play or not tomorrow," the Barça boss said in a press conference. "But my decision won't have anything to do with his oversight. It is is not a situation that will affect my decision.

"He was really worried, of course. He wasn't completely aware of the situation, it's obvious he's made an error but it was an oversight on his part. He's apologised to me and everyone. It was a mistake, nothing more."

LaLiga president Javier Tebas said on Thursday that if players continue to flout the protocol put in place to avoid anyone contracting coronavirus, he may have to ask teams to quarantine, meaning staying at hotels or training grounds between matches.
