The midfielder's deal expires in June 2023 but the club might offer him a short extension

FC Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets is nearing the end of his time at the club. He wants to finish his career in the USA, possibly with Inter Miami, and was said to be looking at departing in January. However his contract runs until June and Barca want him to stay.

Xavi has hasted him to remain until then, when the club can bring in a new midfielder.

Barca are also interested in renewing his deal for a further six months, until December 2023, so Busquets can start his new career in pre-season in the US.

They are set to meet in the coming days. Busquets retired from the Spanish national team after they were eliminated from the Qatar World Cup in the last 16.

Feelings are good between club and player, and even though him leaving could help the club free up salary space on La Liga’s FFP rules, Barca aren’t trying to make him go early.

Busquets, at 34, played 143 times for Spain before bowing out.
