Sergino Dest still feeling back issue despite recent appearances

Sergino Dest is not having a simple end to the year. As well as the speculation around his future he’s had some physical issues that have come from his Ajax days which have reared their head again in the last few weeks. His back is still in pain and that is stopping him playing at 100 per cent. Barcelona’s calendar has been intense and the various injuries the team has suffered has not allowed him a break, which would have suited him to the ground.

The full back, who played as a left winger against Boca Juniors, has been used in various different roles. He was right back against Betis, right winger against Bayern and now on the left. Xavi Hernandez chose not to use full backs against Osasuna. Since the Bayern game there have been various news stories suggesting Dest is a player Barcelona are looking to move along.

However Dest’s main aim in the coming weeks is to recover from his physical issues so he can be 100 per cent again. He’s been in cotton wool for a month because of his back.

Now the imminent but brief winter break might give him a chance to get back to his best for 2022; he’ll also have more competition in the form of Dani Alves.
