Samper has recovered from the ankle injury he suffered last season but is now carrying a slight knee injury and won't be risked

Sergi Samper is suffering some discomfort in his left knee and Barcelona have decided, after speaking with the club's medical staff, not to risk the player and have him continue his recovery in Spain. Barcelona released the following statement: "The first team player Sergi Samper has a problem in his left knee and will stay in Barcelona to receive treatment and follow a specific training plan."

Samper was cleared to return by medical staff back in July after spending six months on the treatement table with a broken ankle. A long and hard rehabiliation period made Samper come back stronger and this will be seen as a small bump in the road compared to what he previously went through.

Valverde is keen to see what the player has to offer this summer before deciding whether Samper needs another loan away from the club in order to aid his development.
