Sergi Roberto joins Barça's injury list and is likely to miss the clásico

The injuries are mounting for Xavi ahead of three big home games next week

There are now eight injured players at FC Barcelona. Sergi Roberto went down this Wednesday in the first team's joint training session with Barça Atlètic. The club have now issued a medical statement regarding the player's injury.

"The first team player Sergi Roberto has an injury in the soleus of his right leg (calf). He is out of action and his evolution will mark his availability," Barcelona said in the statement.

We will see the full extent of the injury, but he is ruled out of Sunday's game against Athletic at Montjuïc and he is unlikely to be back for the Real Madrid game on Oct. 2.

Missed chance

With the plague of injuries affecting the club, Roberto had a chance to play from the start or against Athletic or against Shakhtar next Wednesday in the Champions League. It is another setback for Xavi, who sees his players dropping like 'flies'.

In the first scans, the injury appears to be minor. It is not ruled out that if he progresses well, he will be back in around two weeks, but to be fit for the clásico is unlikely.

Pedri, Raphinha, Frenkie de Jong, Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde have also suffered recent injuries.
