The reason relates to a clause imposed when the Catalans signed Coutinho

Barcelona cannot sign any footballers from Liverpool for the next two years. It relates to a clause included in the deal which saw Philippe Coutinho move to Camp Nou in January.

The information, revealed by the show 'Què t'hi jugues' on Cadena Ser, explains that when the two clubs agreed the €160 million deal for the Brazilian international, Liverpool wanted to include a pact that would prevent Barça signing any of their other players.

In reality, the clause lasts for three years, but one year has almost past since the deal was done. It was the Premier League club's way of protecting their interests against the lure of playing for Barça.

Coutinho admitted the fact it was Barcelona played a big part in him pushing for a move away from Anfield. It was a similar story with Luis Suarez, who made the same switch in 2014.
