The Audiencia Nacional upheld the decision to hold Sandro Rosell on remand for alleged money laundering

Sandro Rosell had appealed against a previous decision but the appeal was rejected

The Audiencia Nacional (National Court) had decided to keep the ex-president of FC Barcelona Sandro Rosell on remand for laundering money belonging to the Confederación Brasileña de Fútbol (CBF) as it considers there is a risk of Rosell fleeing the county and destroying evidence.

Rosell’s defence had appealed against the decision to send Rosell to prison taken by the judge Carmen Lamela on 25 May. The appeal was rejected today.

Rosell claimed there was no risk of him fleeing as he was known throughout the world due to his former role at Barça, but this argument was refuted by the prosecution. In their decision, the judges deemed Rosell should remain on remand because there is a risk of him hiding evidence and committing further crimes, as well as a risk of him fleeing, if he is let out.
