Samuel Umtiti: I didn't expect to play so much this season
The French defender feels flattered by comparisons to Carles Puyol
He highlighted the good atmosphere the trident help create in the squad
FC Barcelona player Samuel Umtiti was invited on Sunday to appear on the French television programme Telefoot. He analysed various aspects of Barcelona’s game and said: “I didn’t expect to play so much in my first year at Barca.”
Umtiti has gained the respect and admiration of the fans and some have even compared him to legend Carles Puyol. “I’m flattered that they compare him to me. He’s an example for me. I feel good in this team, it’s a pleasure to play for,” he said.
He also praised the strikers, the MSN. “To play with them is one of the best ways to progress on a day to day basis. They are three good team-mates. With them you can laugh, joke…”
Umtiti also denied that Messi has a ‘black list’ on which some of his former team-mates are claimed to be on. “Knowing Leo, I don’t think this list exists. He doesn’t have time to think about these things.”
