The former Argentine player thinks the No 10 should save himself for the World Cup
Lionel Messi is probably the only reason Argentina fans think they are capable of winning the World Cup. It's for that reason that a legendary player, Oscar Ruggieri, has asked publicly that Messi doesn't play any more games for Barca this season and reserves himself for Russia.
Ruggieri said: "Do you think Barcelona will lose the league title if Messi doesn't play again? Messi should phone the president of the club and tell him, this is my World Cup, I'm going to dedicate myself to the national team."
He continued, saying that it would be a bang on the table and would motivate his team-mates. "What do you think the other players will do if they see Messi going to work with Sampaoli? They would go with him. He should ring Sampaoli now and tell him that he will be concentrating fully on the World Cup."
In Argentina they are conscious that this is the last World Cup Messi will likely participate and after he retires, they will not be able to win anything for many years.
