The Lyon coach stepped out of the club line to pass comment on the Dutchman

The hot topic at Lyon is Memphis Depay's future. While the club are considering cutting his price and allowing Barcelona to sign him in January, to prevent him leaving for nothing in the summer, Rudi Garcia has gone the other way, stepping out of the club's line.

In an interview with Telefoot, Garcia has said that he counts on his captain for the rest of the season. "If we have ambitions, he will still be with us in the second half of the season," said Garcia. "Memphis is a world-class player and we're much stronger with him in the team." It's a message to club president Jean-Michel Aulas, ahead of the winter window opening.

Depay, whose contract expires on June 30, 2021, has scored seven goals so far and is with Ekambi the top scorer at the club and one of the best in France. Per L'Equipe, the forward could leave for 5m euros in Jan, far below the 25m they were asking for him last summer.

The player's potential departure would conflict with what the coach wants, with Garcia unwilling to let the forward go. Lyon right now are top of the table, above Lille and PSG. There could be civil war.
