The coach wanted to check in with the Argentine forward who is on holiday

Sergio Aguero, along with Leo Messi and Emerson Royal, is one of three Barca players who played in the Copa America. The trio are on three weeks’ holiday ahead of next season. They rejoin Barca from August 1. Messi will have to sign his new contract before then most likely.

The last to arrive will be the trio in Tokyo with Spain, Eric Garcia, Pedri and Oscar Mingueza. When the South Americans are back, Barca will be in Germany at a training camp. It’s unlikely the trio will be in shape to feature against RB Salzburg on August 4. They also have to have their Covid tests and medical tests.

There is no worry among Barca staff. Koeman knows Kun Aguero might need some time to adapt to his new home and has no intention of rushing with him. The Dutch coach spoke to Aguero on the telephone.

He was interested in how he was on a physical level and wished him nice holidays and disconnection before arriving at Barca with his batteries charged.

Ronald told him about the plans for the season and the demands on the players. It was just a courtesy call but it showed the enthusiasm Koeman has for his second season at Camp Nou. Aguero, for his part, appreciated the gesture and is excited to get going.
