Ronald Araujo: When I can jump over the badge I will and not step on it

The Uruguayan defender did not want to disrespect his club and his fans

Ronald Araujo is essential for Xavi. The Uruguayan had a calm game, with Elche down to 10 players and unable to compete. He tried to score an acrobatic goal but it didn’t quite come off.

“I am very happy for the win and the path that we’re on. The team is growing,” said the defender after the game.

One of the keys of Xavi’s Barca is that they don’t let in goals, just one in six games. The defence works.

“We were sure of that all we needed to correct from last season. One of those things was to keep more clean sheets and we’re doing it. We’ve got a lot of quality players up front (too).”

Araujo jumped over the badge on the side of the pitch so as not to step on it. “I respect the club and I’m a fan,” he said. “When I can, I will jump over it out of respect for the club and the fans.”
