The young midfielder is confident he will play for Barça this season

Riqui Puig started for Spain U21's in the 2-0 win against the Faroe Islands on Friday, playing 61 minutes before being replaced by Barcelona teammate Pedri.

Puig was given a couple of kicks in the game but was happy to be playing again after spending Barça's first three games as an unused substitute.

Ronald Koeman had told Puig he may be better off going out on loan but he decided to stay and remains convinced he will get a chance under the Dutchman.

"I'm going to end up getting minutes," the midfielder said. "If I didn't believe that to be the case, I would not have stayed."

Riqui Puig has a clear objective: "I want to succeed at Barça. earn my place and I don't see any other path. I am happy in Barcelona, I have my family here and I am sure I will get opportunities and I will end up playing."

On his chat with Koeman, who suggested a loan, he says it wasn't as harsh as reported at the time: "Sometimes things are leaked that are not true. Koeman has faith in me and will give me chances to show my potential and prove I can play for such a great club.

"[Koeman] has already explained what he told me, that he has faith in me and that I will have minutes."
