Barcelona haven't given up on the defender reaching his potential and inserted a clause so they could buy him back

With the knowledge that Barça didn't believe he was ready for the first team this season, Yerry Mina had no choice but to pack his bags and look for a new club. The Colombian chose Everton as he continues his development as a footballer following a sensational World Cup campaign. While the player may have left for now, that doesn't mean he won't be back in the future. In fact, as was revealed in the moment the deal was confirmed, Barça maintain an option to buy back Mina at a later date.

The part which wasn't revealed until now is that Barça can't activate the option to re-sign the Colombian until 2020, according to 'Marca'. This means that for the next two years Barcelona won't be able to back buy Mina for the agreed €60m. It was Barcelona themselves who inserted that clause into the deal because they believe he could still develop into one of the best defenders in the world.
