The French centre-back is not needed at Barca and that has been the case for some time
This summer it seems like Samuel Umtiti will leave Barcelona. We’re yet to find out the exact formula, but it seems most likely that it will be a loan deal with an option to buy. He has a contract until 2026 at Barcelona, a deal he took this year to help get Ferran Torres registered.
One of the clubs who are most interested are Rennes, who are negotiating for the Fench centre-back. The coach Bruno Genesio has admitted he’s interested in the Barcelona man.
“He’s a player we know perfectly well,” explained Genesio. “I had him during his formative years and then in Lyon’s first team and that creates a link. You all know his story, his qualities, the setbacks he’s had last year, but he’s still a player with a very high level, and we are interested in players who have a high level.”
Umtiti has permission not to attend the club’s first pre-season training sessions while he negotiates his future.
