Canarian referee Alejandro Jose Hernandez Hernandez has been chosen by the refereeing committee to take charge of the Clasico on April 23 between Real Madrid and Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 34-year-old born in Lanzarote has taken charge of Barcelona this season in a couple of games, notably the match they drew 1-1 at Real Betis, with the clear goal they scored not allowed despite the ball crossing the line.

Hernandez Hernandez also was in charge of the 4-2 win over Valencia Sunday as well as the Spanish Super Cup win over Sevilla at Camp Nou (3-0). He whistled Barcelona’s victory at Granada on the final day of last season that handed them the title.

Since 2012-13 Hernandez Hernandez has taken charge of 85 top flight matches.
