Real Madrid break a negative record of 13 years
The last time Los Blancos bettered Barcelona on opening day was back in 2007
Real Madrid beat Celta Vigo at Balaidos, 3-1, on Saturday. And with Barcelona losing 1-0 in Bilbao on Friday, it ended a 13 year negative record of Madrid's.
The last time they started a season better than arch rivals Barcelona was back in the 2007-08 campaign, Frank Rijkaard was the coach of the Catalans. Madrid beat Atletico 2-1 in the derby, while Barcelona drew 0-0 at Racing Santander.
After that Madrid have only obtained worse or equal results to Barcelona in their opening La Liga fixtures - until Friday Barca had won their last 10 starting matches.
