Re-signed! France winger Ousmane Dembele to stay at FC Barcelona

| sport

Dembele's camp have agreed a new two-year deal with the Catalan club

Only a cataclysm could prevent what is about to happen. Ousmane Dembele will re-sign with Barcelona for another two years. In recent hours, the player's agent and the club have taken the necessary steps to find an agreement for the Frenchman to remain at Camp Nou.

The remaining details to sort were small, not especially significant according to the two parties, but since SPORT announced a week ago that an "agreement was in sight," the final conversations did not take place until Friday. Barça contacted Moussa Sissoko, the player's agent, to solve the final details needed to close the deal. It could be announced in the middle of next week.

Barça coach Xavi Hernandez and technical director Jordi Cruyff have fought for the Frenchman to stay. Their stance was in contrast to the tension which was at times generated between sporting director Mateu Alemany and Sissoko. Xavi asked for Dembele to stay and this is the first step to give the coach the attack he wants, along with Lewandowski and Raphinha.

Barça have ceded in certain areas by giving him a short contract, as Dembele's agents wanted, while the player has also compromised by accepting an offer significantly lower than others he has received. The final agreement, short and with several important bonuses, is subject to Barcelona's financial limits but, at the same time, will meet the minimum conditions set by the player during negotiations.
