Puyol: Don't put pressure on Arthur with Xavi comparisons
The ex-Barça defender believes Arthur should be left to develop on his own
Former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has spoken about the emergence of Arthur Melo in the Catalan club's recent games.
Arthur's impressed since coming into the side against Tottenham, keeping up his form against Valencia, Sevilla and Inter.
Speakign to ‘Sportium’, ‘Puyi’ says that "comparing any player with Xavi [Hernandez] is a big claim. In that comparison, you're going to lose and it's puts pressure on Arthur that he shouldn't have on his back."
Puyol continued: "You have to leave him to grwo, to play his football and not compare him with Xavi. It he's with Barcelona. it's because they've seen his quality and believe he has the characteristics to play at this club. And he's showing that."
Arthur is expected to keep his place in Sunday's Clasico against Real Madrid, despite going off with a minor issue in the win over Inter.
Barça signed the Brazil international from Gremio in the summer for an initial fee of around €31 million.
