The Brazil international does not want to lose the Italian midfielder

He believes PSG can kick on in the Champions League and Ligue 1

Brazilian defender Marquinhos has not been linked with a move away from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, but his team-mate Marco Verratti is a target for Barcelona.

Talking to L'Equipe, the centre-back said he doesn't expect the Italian midfielder to leave for Camp Nou.

"From a distance, I have read a lot [about Verratti's possible move to Barça], but I don't know if it's true," Marquinhos said. "Marco never said he wanted to leave PSG.

"He's a great player, an important element of the project at PSG, so I hope he stays with us. I don't have any desire for him to leave and, frankly, I don't think he will leave us."

PSG's early elimination from the Champions League again and their second place finish in the league could be among the reasons Verratti wants to leave, but Marquinhos says they have learned a lot from their failings this year.

He added: "We have all learned this season. It was tough at the start as we adpated to a new manager's philosophy. But in January we found our syle and it was really efficient, except in the game against Barcelona, obviously [6-1 loss].

"We won three titles [Super Cup, League Cup, French Cup], which is not insignificant. We were second in Ligue 1 behind Monaco and the league was really competitive.

"A disappointing season, but it could be important for the future. We've learned a lot and can use that to do better in the Champions League and to be stronger in the league."
