Pjanic could be the key to Barcelona signing Napoli's Koulibaly

The midfielder could be included in a potential deal for the defender

Barcelona are focusing on the signing of Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly to strengthen in defence this summer as they look to bring in another top-level centre-back.

Barça sounded out moves for De Ligt (Juventus) and Koundé (Sevilla) but both deals would be too expensive for the Catalans at this stage of their financial recovery.

Koulibaly is more affordable, wants to come and could be even cheaper if Miralem Pjanic, a player Napoli like, is included in the operation. Talks will open this coming week.

Barça asked about a transfer after the sides met in the Europa League. The coaching staff were impressed with him and feel his profile fits what they lack at the back.

The deal is possible because his contract is up in 2023 and he does not want to renew. Napoli are reluctant to sell, but could be forced to listen to bids of around €35 million given the situation.

Barça, meanwhile, know of Napoli's interest in Pjanic. The Bosnian midfielder is wanted by the Italian side on loan.

Barça would be ready to give them Pjanic if it brought the cost of Koulibaly down. Key to the operation is the fact they both share an agent, Fali Ramadani.

Next week could be key as Ramadani plans to meet with Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis in Rome.
