Pique: Xavi didn't even know I had cancelled my visit to El Hormiguero
The Barcelona defender said it was a lie that Xavi forced him to pull out of interview
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has had his say on reports new coach Xavi Hernandez forced him to cancel an appearance on a Spanish television show.
Pique was due to be interviewed on El Hormiguero this week to promote the Davis Cup, but instead decided to pull out as Barça prepare for Saturday's Catalan derby against Espanyol at Camp Nou.
However, speaking on Ibai's Twitch, Pique explained that, while Xavi has introduced certain rules since replacing Koeman, the decision to drop out of the appearance was his.
"Xavi didn't even know I had cancelled going on El Hormiguero," Pique said. "People say things because the media say what they want people to hear, the problem is they invent things.
"I had to explain to Xavi what the El Hormiguero thing was. I had to explain it was true, that I had cancelled the interview, but I cancelled it because I wanted to, because there are rules that Xavi has introduced and if you want to travel, you have to tell him and in the end I preferred to just cancel the interview because I didn't fancy having to ask permission. That's it."
