The defender also spoke about Messi's future at Camp Nou from the US Open in New York

Gerard Pique is in New York at the US Open with his partner Shakira, taking advantage of the time of given to the Barcelona squad by coach Ernesto Valverde during the international break.

While in the States, the defender explained the conversation he had with Neymar once the transfer window closed and the Brazilian was left at Paris Saint-Germain having failed to secure a move back to Barça.

Speaking to El Larguero on Cadena Ser, Pique began saying that "there's been a lot of drama, and that's normal because of who he is, but we have to turn the page."

He added: "I wish him the best. I spoke with him and I said I hope things go well for him this season and that you never knew, each year brings a new opportunity, so we will see..."

Pique also said keeping the window open until the third game of the new season doesn't help. "It should close before, that there are still rumours doesn't help. The Premier League has the advantage over us in that sense."

MESSI

On Lionel Messi, who El Pais has revealed has the option to leave for free each summer if he wants, Pique was clear: "Leo has earned the right to decide his future, I hope he continues at Barça until he's 40."

Pique also spoke about the Spanish national team, who he retired from after the World Cup last summer. "It was the decision I made at that moment. It's time to focus on Barça. I hope Spain with the Euros."
