The centre-back deserves a better finale at Camp Nou but things look bleak at the moment
It has been a bitter season for Gerard Pique at Barcelona so far. The frustration on his face as he sits on the bench says it all.
Pique seems condemned, not just because of any decision made by coach Xavi Hernandez but because of the superior performances from Araujo, Koundé, Eric and Christensen.
It is an awkward situation because, of the five central defenders in the squad, he is the one that earns the most but also the one that is going to play the least.
Pique's performances for Barça for so many years are deserving of a better finale. But the years pass for everyone and knowing when to retire or leave is a decision few make at the right time.
The centre-back could yet come back into Xavi's plans -- it's a long season and there will be minutes up for grabs -- but it's been a bleak start to the campaign.
