The Barça defender wants football to return but not before the players are ready

Gerard Pique says players will need longer to prepare after La Liga president Javier Tebas suggested the league could return on June 12.

The Barcelona defender, who has been back in training since Friday, suggested more time was necessary to avoid injuries and ensure the players are ready to restart after what will be three months with no games.

However, he stressed that he's keen for the season to restart, despite the fact Barça could benefit from it being cancelled as they are top of the table, two points clear of Real Madrid with 11 games to be played.

"I understand La Liga's [desire] to try and finish the season because there is a lot at play," the defender told Movistar.

"We don't like playing without supporters, but ending the campaign without playing any more games, even though we are top, would be ugly. It makes sense what La Liga are doing.

"But we have been stopped for a long time now without being able to play friendlies. And with just one month of training, I would tell [La Liga] it wouldn't be a bad thing to give us a few more days to avoid injuries and ensure we're better prepared."
