Pique: I want to be FC Barcelona president when I retire

The centre-back has made it clear what he would like to do when his playing career is over

Gerard Pique never hides and on TV3 on Thursday night in an interview with Jordi Baste he didn't avoid any subject. Days after announcing he will leave the Spain team after the 2018 World Cup, the defender spoke about his plans post retirement.

In 2014 he suggested he would like to the president of Barcelona one day. And the idea is still in his head.

“Yes, when I say things I mean them. I want to be president of Barca. It’s a step I’d like to take when I retire. I don’t see myself as a manager, I don’t think I would enjoy it as much," he said.

“As a president I could do really well for this club, because it’s what I am passionate about. My playing career will [one day] come to an and and the step I’d like to take is to become Barcelona president.”

And how would Barcelona be with Pique as presideny? The player himself assured that "there are many years [until it could happen], although you do think about it." Asked about the structure of the club under him, he said "it's not time to reflect on that, although I have something in my head."

Xavi Hernandez revealed last month the plans his former team-mate has: Carles Puyol (sporting director), Xaxi (first team coach) and Sergio Busquets (assistant coach) were involved.
