Philippe Coutinho now counts as an EU-player for Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho finally has his EU status. The Brazilian was given his Portuguese passport with less than 42 hours before the Spanish Super Cup, solving the problem that had presented itself to Ernesto Valverde.

One of Cou, Arturo Vidal, Arthur or Malcom needed to be left out of the squad against Sevilla if Coutinho’s passport did not arrive.

Thanks to his wife Aine, who is Portuguese, Coutinho has obtained the paperwork he needed. A more difficult process than expected but in the end the situation has been solved.

That means all four players can be included in the squad on Sunday.
