Coutinho played could still earn a Champions League medal with Liverpool

Barcelona's Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho could still win the Champions League despite his side's elimination by Roma on Tuesday.

Coutinho has not played one minute for Barça in Europe because he was cup-tied when he signed for them in January.

Cup-tied because he played five games for Liverpool in the competition earlier in the season -- and the Reds are now three games away from being crowned champions of Europe again.

Jurgen Klopp's side knocked out Pep Guardiola's Manchester City 5-1 on aggregate,

Despite Coutinho saying that he has "come to Barcelona to win the Champions League" he may now have to watch his former club win it.

Coutinho played five games in the group stages for the Premier League side. In total, he featured for 347 minutes and scored five goals, so he would be eligible for a medal if Liverpool win the trophy next month.

THE FIVE GAMES Coutinho PLAYED IN EUROPE:

  • Liverpool - Sevilla: 2-2 (min. 14'; goals 0)
  • Spartak Moscow - Liverpool: 1-1 (min. 90'; goals 1)
  • Maribor - Liverpool: 0-7 (min. 90'; goals 1)
  • Sevilla - Liverpool: 3-3 (min. 63'; goals 0)
  • Liverpool - Spartak Moscow: 7-0 (min. 90'; goals 3).
