Pep Guardiola wants to sign former Barça player Alejandro Grimaldo

The Manchester City coach headed to Portugal on Monday to watch him in the flesh

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City coach, took advantage of his free Monday to head to Portugal and watch Benfica vs Braga in the Estadio Da Luz, with the objective of closely following the performance of former FC Barcelona cantera player Alejando Grimaldo. The 21-year-old left-back arrived at Benfica in December 2015 from Barcelona for 1.5m euros.

Guardiola has been interested in him for a while and on this occasion chose to go and watch him in person. Grimaldo was not in Gerard Lopez's plans at Barcelona B but has vindicated himself with Benfica, becoming a key player for Rui Vitoria. He has played all the games in all competitions for his club. Signing him will be tough though, with Man City looking at a 60 million euro price tag - his release fee clause.
