Pep Guardiola: Ronald Koeman deserves to continue for another year

Joan Laporta says Ronald Koeman will stay as Barca coach / | sport

The Barca manager was under fire but he is now staying at the club

Pep Guardiola spoke at a golf tournament in Mallorca. The Man City coach supported his friend and former team-mate Ronald Koeman.

“It’s been a difficult year for all teams, Koeman deserves another year, with fans in the stadium,” said Guardiola. “Barca fell at the end in La Liga, they won the cup, with the defence of five and in attack with a 3-4-3 at times they played the best football in Spain.

“Things will be very different this year, with fans in the stadium. Nothing is comparable in a media sense to Barca and Madrid, if you don’t want that you don’t get into this job.”

Koeman and Guardiola played gold together last Friday with their sons.

Pep said he too had spoken with Barca chief Joan Laporta.

“I spoke with Laporta, he seemed to me very convinced of the decision he’s taken with Koeman.

“Aguero and Eric Garcia are two big signings, both correct. Kun’s a goalscorer and with Eric I told Koeman he’s made a spectacular signing, he’ll be one of the captains for the next decade.”

In terms of his own interest in potentially returning, Guardiola added: “I have two more years on my deal with City, I’m happy and will keep being so.”
