Oriol Romeu gave up part of his salary to force through Barça transfer

Barcelona made the signing of Oriol Romeu official on Wednesday and the Catalan midfielder has already boarded the plane to begin the pre-season tour of the United States under the orders of Xavi Hernández.

This has been possible after negotiations that have been accelerated and been closed in the last 48 hours, largely thanks to the effort made by Romeu and his agent, Màgic Díaz, who agreed to give up part of the player's salary and some commission so that the midfielder could fulfil his dream of wearing the Blaugrana shirt again.

Girona wanted to charge for Oriol Romeu an amount close to 4.5 million euros. The figure corresponded to the termination clause of an important player for their interests plus a million which is what the player had cost the club in different concepts in his year at Montilivi.

Barça, on the other hand, when they knew that Romeu's termination clause was 3.4 million euros, decided not to move from that amount, which Girona were demanding with the corresponding interest that comes with activating the clause at LaLiga's headquarters in Madrid, something neither the player nor his agent wanted to do. The figure has come from part of his salary and his agent's commission.

The final solution, so that the operation could be fulfilled was that the player himself added to the 3.4 million that Barça paid, the amount corresponding to the interest on the clause, raising the final sum to about 4 million euros.

Pablo Torre

Being a transfer, Barça have also managed to get the amount paid in instalments. The Pablo Torre deal is completely separate to the Oriol Romeu transfer. And at Girona, it has not gone down very well that the Catalan club has included in the transfer contract of the Cantabrian the fear clause that will not allow him to play against Barça.
