The Portuguese midfielder is liked by Xavi and the directors but a deal needs work
Barcelona‘s three big transfer targets in the summer market were Robert Lewandowski, Jules Koundé and Bernardo Silva. The first two are a reality and the third is looking promising. It was difficult for Barcelona to do these deals but using their newfound financial leverage they managed to get them over the line. The Portuguese midfielder is keen to join the Catalan club and he only has two options for next season: stay in Manchester or come to Barcelona.
Xavi is very conscious of Barcelona‘s economic problems since he arrived in November 2021, although he has never hidden that he wants to create a team capable of winning everything. The coach, during his year as a player and now from the bench, is always thinking big. Joan Laporta wants to give him the best possible squad to help Barcelona get back to their place at the top of European football. The player is keen to come, and end his time in Manchester. However, what they need to do is find a solution to the Frankie de Jong case. Right now that is essential to be able to start thinking about Bernardo Silva’s signing.
Barcelona have done their homework in terms of the finances and by pulling the different levers they have been able to give the club the oxygen to operate in the market. The latest of these was €100 million end for the sale of 24.5% of Barça studios. That number should be enough, according to club sources, to be able to register all the players they have signed already. However, Bernardo Silva’s potential arrival depends on the Dutchman departing.
