One win in five: Atletico loss extends Barça's poor run of results
It's been a tough spell for Barcelona since they were held by Real Sociedad in December
Atletico Madrid scored twice in the last 10 minutes to beat Barcelona 3-2 and reach the final of the revamped Spanish Supercopa in Saudi Arabia.
The game threw up millions of statistics, but it should also be mentioned that Barça were the better side and deserved to set up a Clasico final against Real Madrid on Sunday.
However, this is football, and the team that scores more wins -- or, in this case, the team that has fewer goals ruled out. And that team was Atletico.
JUST ONE WIN
Thursday's loss, Barça's fourth of the season in all competitions, is very different to the defeats at Athletic, Granada and Levante, but it counts just the same.
In addition, despite the positive performance, it once again proved that Barça are struggling to kills games off when they are in the lead.
It's now five games and just one win for Ernesto Valverde's side, a 4-1 victory over Alaves just before Christmas. Prior to that they had drawn with Real Sociedad and Real Madrid. And since then they have. drawn with Espanyol and lost to Atletico.
In that run they have conceded eight goals. In total, this season, they have leaked 30 goals in 26 games. Those numbers are far too high for a club that hopes to compete for all the major trophies.
