Onana's agent confirms Barcelona interest in Ajax keeper
The stopper left Barca and became first choice at Ajax after Cillessen went the other way
The agent of Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, Albert Bovines, has confirmed Barcelona are interested in their former player. Onana, 22, signed for Ajax in 2015 after training at the Barca academy since 2010-11.
A few days ago the player himself said “returning to Barca would be a dream. If I leave Ajax it would be for a bigger club”.
Bovines has now confirmed contact from the Blaugrana to De Telegraaf.
“Correct, it’s not a secret that Barca are interested,” said Botines. The same newspaper said Tottenham, Arsenal and West Ham are also interested.
His good performances in the Eredivisie and the Champions League have made some sides interested in him, including Barca.
He became first choice in 2016 after Jasper Cillessen left - guess where - and Onana has played over 120 games for Ajax.
The report say Onana, who has a contract until June 2021, is worth around 20 million euros, but they also say Ajax won’t let him go for less than 30m.
If Jasper Cillessen decides to go this summer, Barca would be looking for a replacement and they may turn to Onana. Relations between the clubs are good after Barca’s recent signing of Frenkie de Jong.
