Barça will receive six million for the defender and will retain the option to buy him back at a later date

Barcelona have officially announced the transfer of Marlon Santos to Sassuolo. The club will earn €6m up front and there's a couple of potential benefits should the player progress well in Italy.

First, Barça retain the option to buy back Marlon should an opportunity arise at the Camp Nou for him to join the first team. They have also an agreement for 50% of any future sale.

However, this 50% clause will be removed if and once Marlon has completed 50 matches for Sassuolo. If this happens, the Italian club must pay Barça another €6m.

If Sassuolo end up paying €12m, Barça stand to make a €7m profit on Marlon as they only paid Fluminense €5m for the defender. If the defender continues to develop well, Barça could also benefit by bringing him back into the first team picture.

Marlon has been in Italy since Wednesday as he waited for the two clubs to close the deal. He's already undergone a medical and can now be presented by his new team.

The young centre back has been one of the most talked about transfers this summer. He agreed personal terms with Newcastle United only to see a move fall through as he was unable to gain a work permit.

In the last few hours, alongside Sassuolo, Barça have also been talking with Schalke 04. The German club offered more than Sassuolo but the player preferred a switch to Italy.
