Not much ball for Sergino Dest
Barca tilt left and feed Jordi Alba more than they do the right back
Barcelona showed against Dinamo Kiev they are a team very much under construction. The Blaugrana took three points but left bittersweet sensations. The win was thanks to Ter Stegen, but there was defensive fragility and various unbalances in the tam. The inequalities in how the team looked for Jordi Alba and Sergino Dest show that.
The left-back, whose movements are well known by his team-mates, especially Messi, received 93 passes. Alba always offers himself in attack, an offensive profile which contrasted with Sergi Roberto and Nelson Semedo at right-back, last season.
However one of Dest’s virtues is that he too helps in the attack, even if he has not yet exploded in that context for Barca. That’s partly because the team leans left.
Dest received 55 passes, 40% less than Alba. Centre-back Frenkie de Jong gave Alba the ball 26 times, while Gerard Pique fed Dest nine times. Busquets gave 13 passes to Alba and 7 to Dest. Pjanic distributed the ball evenly, five to Dest and four to Alba.
