Negotiations to renew Iñaki Peña's Barcelona contract are at a standstill

Negotiations between Barcelona and Iñaki Peña are at a standstill. The goalkeeper from Alicante finishes his contract on the 30th of June and both parties have been in contact for months to extend his deal, but they still haven't reached a definitive agreement, something that seemed close a few weeks ago, but hasn't materialised yet.

Barça and Iñaki Peña were in agreement to extend the goalkeeper's contract for three seasons, but the economic offer that the Alicante-born player has received is not to his liking. In addition, his agent has received more offers.

One of them is from Real Betis, who see him as a good option to fill the vacancy left by the veteran Claudio Bravo -- taking into account that Peña would arrive for free. This proposal interest the goalkeeper and has led to some doubts about his future.

The Copa del Rey has forced Peña to think about his things.

He was a starter against Intercity and also against Ceuta in the first two qualifiers, but Xavi opted for Ter Stegen in the quarter-final against Real Sociedad. This caused Barça's current second-choice goalkeeper to have doubts.

At Barça, they remain optimistic that Peña will eventually extend his contract. If he does not, Arnau Tenas, a regular in the squad as the third goalkeeper, would take his role.

DEBUT

Peña, who last season played on loan at Galatasaray for half a year, made his debut this season in Barça's first team. He did so on the sixth matchday of the Champions League group stage against Viktoria Plzen. He also played two Copa games.
