Napoli 2-4 Barcelona (3-5 on aggregate): Xavi's boys run riot in Naples

It was another top outing for Xavi's side, with goals for Alba, Pique, Auba and Frenkie de Jong

With every game, Barcelona are improving and this was perhaps the best night so far, a big win at the Maradona Stadium in Naples to seal progress to the last 16 of the Europa League.

Barcelona were bright from the off and Jordi Alba broke the deadlock in the eighth minute when he became the sharp end of a razor counter attack.

Napoli’s awful corner was whisked away upfield by Aubameyang, who found Adama Traore on the charge. The winger shipped the ball on to Jordi Alba, busting a gut to get into the box and the defender finished well.

And with Napoli reeling, Frenkie de Jong smashed in the second. Ferran Torres’s backheel flick did not find Aubameyang but did land at De Jong’s feet. Driving forward he drew close to the box and scooped a sensational strike into the top corner.

The only problem was themselves. Marc-Andre ter Stegen needlessly felled Osimhen and Insigne dispatched the penalty.

However Gerard Pique was in the right place at the right time to put a striker’s finish on an Alba cut-back and extend Barcelona’s lead before the break.

The second half was a quieter affair, although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang still found time to extend his goalscoring run and score brilliantly.

Napoli added another late on through Politano, after Nico lost the ball in his own box, although the Barcelona midfielder did appear to be fouled.

It was a great night for Xavi and a great night for Barça, one of, hopefully, many to come.
