Murphy's Frenkie de Jong advice to Man United

| sport

The Dutch midfielder was under a lot of pressure in the summer from the club to leave but now is settled

Frenkie de Jong is playing at a very high level for Xavi's Barça. The Dutch midfielder had a busy summer in which his name was in all the transfer columns and in the first few league games he was not in the starting line-up because the coach was awaiting a possible transfer away for the Dutchman. Once that possibility was closed and De Jong could focus on playing football, his performance has only improved and today he is essential for Barca.

His talent and quality is beyond doubt and that is why Manchester United's Premier League rivals want the player to stay at the Spotify Camp Nou. Danny Murphy, a former Liverpool player, warned his ex-team that they should be "concerned" about the Red Devils' attempts to sign "super talent" Frenkie de Jong.

Murphy is convinced the Dutchman would fit in well with Erik Ten Hag's side, who are still reluctant to give up on him. "De Jong would play where Christian Eriksen is playing alongside Casemiro and Eriksen would be more of a squad player. That's probably why they opted for Eriksen when they didn't get De Jong because they are both creative. De Jong is more athletic and a bit better receiving the ball, but they are similar," he said.

Several clubs, especially in the Premier League, have shown interest and have enquired about his situation. However, Barça are not considering listening to any offers for one of the most important players in Xavi's team.
