The Munich curse continues for Barcelona under Xavi

The Catalans just cannot win a game in the Bavarian capital it seems

Barcelona have not won in Munich. Now they have suffered five defeats and two draws there. Not even the best Barcelona side in history has won there, let along Xavi’s promising team. Nothing works at the Allianz. This time at least Barcelona competed, above all in the first half.

The Blaugrana were nothing like they were in previous seasons. They won duels, had chances. Something changed in the second half - after Bayern’s opener.

The team was penalised for Marcos Alonso losing his man and Ter Stegen not coming out to grab a corner. It left the team groggy and Sane sniffed blood and grabbed the second.

Barcelona, who have been big this season, were made small at the Allianz.

Barcelona’s first game in Munich was in the 1995-96 season, in the UEFA Cup semis. They drew 2-2 under Cruyff.

In 08-09, Guardiola’s side drew 1-1. Keita scored and Barca moved on to the semis.

Henkes Bayern thrashed Tito Vilanova’s Barcelona in the semis in 2013. Luis Enrique’s side lost 3-2 there, although qualified after a 3-0 home win.

And now Xavi’s team, which lost 3-0 last season at the Allianz, have lost 2-0.
