The former Real Madrid coach, currently unemployed, says that young McTominay was key in shutting down the Argentine star

Since Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United earlier this season, the Portuguese coach has found himself in the headlines for his comments on certain teams and matches. He couldn't resist getting his thoughts on Manchester United's defeat to FC Barcelona in the Champions League this week.

Mourinho believes he knows why Lionel Messi wasn't able to truly take control fo the match at Old Trafford. "Barcelona was not Barcelona yesterday. I think United had one player that was responsible for that because I think Scott McTominay in midfield he was like, but when I use this expression it’s obviously in the total positive sense of the word, he was a mad dog. Pressing higher and creating problems in Barcelona building up then really aggressive on the duels."

The praise from Mourinho only echos when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thought about the young midfielder. "He's developing every time he plays. He comes into training every day with a fantastic attitude. That is the way to improve. Every game he plays, he grows and grows. He was the first one to take the ball down and settle us. We had to slow the game down. We were too quick to give the ball away. The three midfielders did really well."
