The Dutch midfielder did not want to leave but the price is good and Ten Hag wants him

When the season ended, Frenkie de Jong was certain he did not want to leave clubs this summer. The Dutch midfielder said he was proud of being a Barca player and wanted to stay. But there were a lot of rumours that he would sign for Man United. “I want to stay at Barca, it was the club of my dreams since I was little,” he said when arriving with his national team for Nations League games.

However, his thoughts seem to have turned 180 degrees. Barcelona need money and Ten Hag has insisted on him, which is changing the former Ajax player’s mind. Per The Mirror, De Jong has now given his approval of a deal and now the only issue is United reaching a fee with Barcelona. A deal for around 80 million euros plus variables would work.

The Mirror explained Ten Hag had activated all his machinery to persuade Frenkie to come despite them not playing in the Champions League. In the contacts with the player, the coach detailed his sporting plan to bring glory back to Old Trafford. He wants to create a project and reminded De Jong of the league and cup double whey won at Ajax in 2019, when the team also reached the Champions League semi-finals.

Ten Hag thinks De Jong has not been able to shine at Barcelona in three seasons, but will help him do so in the Premier League.
