Miralem Pjanic's salary could condemn him to Barça departure

The Bosnian midfielder could be useful this season but the club are keen to move him on

Miralem Pjanic is one of the players that has most surprised Xavi in preseason. The coach believes the Bosnian could be worth a place in the squad next season, but his high salary means the club would prefer to get him off the books. Barcelona are prioritising an exit for him because there are interesting offers on the table, and because they would save over €12 million each season if he goes. This week will be important in defining his future. Pjanic has shown his quality in preseason, and Xavi thinks he’s a player that can help the team speed up the ball circulation. His play on his first touch is productive, and he can play as a pivot or an interior depending on what is needed. The coaches think that he could offer more to the team than Nico in this moment, although they also understand it’s hard for the club to keep him.

The Bosnian receives the same salary that he got Juventus and is out of place on the new salary scheme. Pjanic would be willing to adjust his salary if there is a place for him at the club this season, but with the good offers Barcelona have received everything indicated that he will be asked to leave this coming week. He has never been a problem for Barcelona, and last year he moved to Turkish football without resisting. Both him and his people dream of succeeding at Barcelona but understand that they will have to go, if Barcelona want them to. Pjanic could end up back in Italian football although he has huge offers from some clubs in Arabia, and although that is not his priority, they are very tempting.
