Miralem Pjanic, dumped before by Koeman and his deputy, has his second chance

The previous coach, Koeman, had dropped the player, apparently under the influence of his deputy, Alfred Schreuder.

Back after a year on loan at Besiktas, Xavi Hernandez wanted to see Miralem Pjanic in action. The Bosnian has convinced the coach during the pre-season and will remain in the squad. Xavi believes that he can be very useful and the player has admitted he will have tough competition and won't be a starter, but will still be able to vie for game time.

Before Xavi, Ronald Koeman discarded Pjanic, a move that many have questioned. The Bosnian midfielder, who arrived in the summer of 2020 from Juventus in a murky swap deal with Arthur, starred in the first part of the season. Since February, however, he was out of the reckoning and by summer the coach wanted his exit. It was his deputy, Alfred Schreuder who influenced Koeman on these decisions.

After a year's exile in Turkey, Pjanic will have a second chance at Barça to prove himself. The Bosnian will also not have his salary cut, as he already had it reduced by 50% last summer to leave on loan to Besiktas.
