The player's agent has gone on the attack after Barca refused to up their contract offer

After Barcelona’s hard-line stance on not improving their contract offer for Matthijs de Ligt, the player’s agent Mino Raiola has decided to change strategy and wants to start an auction for the Dutch defender.

According to Calciomercato, Raiola, although initially agreeing on the duration of the contract -five years- and De Ligt's salary with the Blaugrana, at the same time left open the door for offers from other clubs in the Premier League and, also, for PSG, Bayern Munich and Juventus. And, although Barça, as reported a few days ago, have set their stall out and will not raise their offer for the Dutch defender, the agent has created a lot of doubt. That is despite the player's desire initially being to join the Catalan team along with his best mate De Jong.

Juventus chiefs, although publicly saying they do not want to participate in an auction for the player, have regained interest for De Ligt, a deal which they already considered lost. Therefore, seeing that the situation between Barca and De Ligt seems stagnant, Juve have resumed contact with Raiola and are planning to send him an offer.

Despite this 'impasse' caused by the attitude of the representative of De Ligt, Barça, although the economic issue has become a problem, are sticking with the expectation that it is the player, and not his agent, who decides which team he wants to play at next season.
