Mikel Merino, an almost impossible signing for Barca

The Real Sociedad midfielder would cost too much for the Catalans

Mikel Merino signing for Barcelona is almost impossible, at least this summer. Barca like the player but he’s not a realistic replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who is heading to PSG and snubbing Barca.

Barca do not have the 35 million that he would cost, at the least. Fabian Ruiz is another name on the table but he would be expensive too.

Even though Ronald Koeman thinks Merino would be a good alternative to Sergio Busquets in the midfield, economically Barca could not take on the cost of the deal.

Merino renewed his contract until 2025 with Real Sociedad and he is one of the squad’s captains there.

Merino’s release clause is 60 million euros, although he could be signed for less given the Covid-19 economic crisis.
