Midfielder Gavi will never activate €50 million release clause at Barça

The teenager is expected to sign a new deal before next season

Liverpool were among the Premier League teams tracking him

The week is here in which Gavi, possibly, will agree to sign a new deal with Barcelona with an increased pay packet. Recent talks have served to bring the two parties closer to an agreement, although Barça almost left it too long before presenting a new offer.

The club are aware of how much Barça means to Gavi, still 17, and have played on that, knowing that the teenage midfielder wanted to stay at Camp Nou.

Proof of that is that Gavi's camp have now communicated to all the clubs that have been following the player's situation, especially in the Premier League, that they can forget signing him this summer because Gavi would never activate his €50 million release clause.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have all been monitoring Gavi but he's never really been on the market, despite the hold-up in talks between Barça and his agent, Ivan de la Peña.

There have been moments of tension, but it was a concept problem. Barça feel Gavi is still a work in progress, above all because of his age, while his camp feel he is already at the top level, because of his minutes for Barça and the Spanish national team.

An agreement is expected soon. There is no rush but everyone would like it sorted before preseason begins. The new deal will include a €1 billion clause.
