Messi's scored more free kicks in four years than any top European side
The Argentine has scored an impressive 19 free kicks in the last four years
More illustrating Lionel Messi data appeared after his exhibition against Espanyol: In the last four years, he, on his own, has scored more free kicks than any team has in total across Europe's top five leagues.
"Someone passed me the statistic," Messi said modestly. "I'm really happy to score from a free kick and to be able to help the team."
Soemone else, who we all know, may have looked in the mirror and talked up their greatness without mentioning the group. Not Messi. Not at all.
And the Argentine is in a position to boast. Mister Chip revealed that he's scored 19 goals from free kicks in the last four years (Barça have scored 24)
Trailing Messi are Juventus (18), Lyon, Madrid, Roma (14), Bayern (13), Sampdoria, Mónaco, PSG (12), Chelsea, Liverpool and Milan (11)...
It's a genuinely bewildering figure and once again shows what a monster of the game Messi is, the best footballer of all time.
